The Gustavian

It was a Sunday and I figured I'd splurge a little. My sister agreed and we ended up pigging out in The Gustavian.

What is it all about? The Gustavian is old world country cooking right in the heart of Cebu. They mostly serve European food as interpreted by Chefs Robert F. Lilja and Dietmar Dietrich.

The Food
What we ordered: We went there right in time for their Lunch Buffet which we tried out. They served Hot and Spicy Pork Baby Back Ribs, Fish Fillet in Tomato Sauce and Basil, and Pan Fried Sole with Capers among other things. They have a selection of salads to choose from. They have macaroni, potato, red beets and green salads. They also have sushis and makis. They also have pasta and some bread. Yum! For dessert, they offered watermelon and pineapple.

Taste: I like how their food taste. It's not oily nor too salty. Not something you would expect from an eat-all-you can. I particularly like their ribs. It's tender and flavorful. There was a kick of spice without knocking you down. Did I mention they also have lechon? The skin was so crispy! You can die happy!

Presentation: Nothing surprising.

Price: A bit expensive. Their buffet is at 490Php plus 10% service charge. Free iced tea. Not bottomless though.

The Place
Ambiance: The place makes me think of Old Europe. It is charming and cozy.

Cleanliness: A for Absolutely clean!

The Service
I must say, they really know service! The waiters are so accommodating and attentive. They always know what you need. After I'm finished with a plate, they would always take it out so I can have room for the next one. I really did not have to ask. My glass of water was never empty! I like it!

The Verdict
4.5 STARS out of 5
I would have given a 5 if not for their price.

Frizberry Yogurt

If you want something healthy to cool you off, you better rush to SM City Cebu and look for the Frizberry kiosk.

Frizberry is frozen yogurt topped with your choice of fruits and other trimmings. You can choose from Kiwis and  strawberries to sprinkles and chocolate chips.

This is a great alternative to that gelatto we usually have.

Frizberry yogurt is located at the second floor of the main building of SM City Cebu.

Johnny's Fish and Chips Co.

Sunday night. I just woke up from my afternoon nap. My sister and I planned to go to this tea bar in the North Reclamation Area. We couldn't locate the place so we ended up in Johnny's Fish and Chips Co. in Parkmall.

What is it all about?  Basically, their specialty is Fish and Chips but they also have pasta, salads, burgers and steaks.

The Food
What we ordered: My sister got the Pasta Mari Monte. I ordered Fish and Chips of course!

Taste:  The Pasta Mari Monte is tasty. Their Marinara sauce is not too sour nor too sweet. It's balanced and very subdued. A very light meal in my standards (which is good). The shrimp and the squid with it gives it the meat it needs.

The Fish and Chips is not really to die for. As a meal it's mediocre but the fries alone are good. I guess fried fish and fries are not for me. The combination is pretty indulgent for my taste.

Presentation: The food presentation is very straight forward. No parsley leaf or a tomato rose. Nothing to distract you from the food.

Price: The Pasta is 205PHP while the Fish and Chips is 150PHP. Bottomless Iced Tea is at 65PHP.

The Place:

Ambiance: Their color design is blue and white. It reminds you of yachts and sailors.

Cleanliness: Very clean.

The Service
Efficiency: They got the food on time. Maybe it's because we ate late and we were the only people there. Still, it took them less than 10 minutes to serve the food.

Customer Service: Everybody was pleasant and very accommodating. I didn't have to ask for a refill. Now that's service!

The Verdict:
3.5 STARS out of 5!
I was disappointed with their Fish and Chips but their Pasta Mari Monte and service made up for it.

Top Pot and Hot Cup

May 9, 2010. It's a Sunday and of course I had to meet my bestfriend, Aaron. It has been our routine to meet up every Sunday and catch up on things over barbeque at Larsians, a meal at Mc Donalds, or a cup of Starbucks at Crown Regency.

This time we decided to skip dinner and just get straight to coffee. As I approached the counter, I noticed something new. They're now offering Top Pot doughnuts. Of course, I had to try one. Then I remembered that Top Pot is a coffee shop in Seattles.

How come Starbucks is selling their competitor's product? Then it hit me, Top Pot is probably now owned by Starbucks! If they're not then it will only be time till the inevitable happens. It's like Seattle's Best the second time around. The store with the mermaid logo is set to conquer the coffee world! Coffee domination as we speak. Suddenly I saw an image of Bill Gates. They're slowly pulling a Microsoft on us. Oh well, at least I got to enjoy my hand forged fried doughnut with my Cafe Americano. Who cares anyway?

Probably Insane

Lately I've been thinking about the future and what life has in store for me. Sure, I have a job that pays well but is it worth my health? I kinda feel I'm deteriorating slowly.

I'm about to take on a very daunting task - law school. I look forward to it yet with a sense of "Can I do this?" Hmmm... Doubt. I don't like it.

I guess the trick here is to just be positive and work things out. I should know that everything will be okay. Sorry, guys. I don't want to bother you with my drama.

These are just thoughts from your (probably insane) call center professional.

Lately I can't seem to have enough of Charice's new single, Pyramid. Is it the fact that it's a collaboration with Iyaz or I'm just turning into a Charice Pempengco Fan?

Regardless, Charice keep up the good work! Be proud! Be Filipino!
